I moved to London from Tokyo in August 2008. This is the first time I’ve lived in a foreign country and I have had many interesting experiences in London so far.
At first, I discovered that many people don't draw their curtains, so passers-by can see inside their house and into a part of their lives. This is very interesting and inspiring to me, because most people in Japan keep their curtains closed, because Japanese people seem much more secretive about their private space.
I really like that some people adorn their windows with flowers, ornaments, flags, stickers and other personal belongings. And many
people don’t seem to mind passers-by looking into their home when they are having dinner with their family, or maybe watching television. Many of these clues and hints at the windows stimulate my imagination. Fictional stories come to my mind about these rooms, members of the family, their relationships and what they might do for a living.
I would like to find people who are happy for me to draw pictures of the windows and create short fictional stories about each window, like a conversation between two people, a mumble or cooking dinner for example.
To complete the project I would like to display the drawing in the room that features in the drawing. Then I would like to take a picture of the residents with the drawing.
I would be really grateful if you take part in my project! read more
